 The respiratory metabolism measurement system for aquatic organisms is mainly used to measure oxygen consumption in fish, aquatic invertebrates, fish eggs and their embryos and even plankton. It is widely used in the ecology of aquatic life, water environment toxicology, aquaculture, fish behavior physiological ecology, aquatic animal development ecology and aquarium.

The respiratory metabolic measurement system for aquatic organisms adopts intermittentrespiratory measurement method, which combines the advantag es of “open” respiratory measurement method with long measurement time and simple “closed” respiratory measurement method, overcoming the disadvantages of  poor time resolution in “open”mode and poor continuous measurement in “closed”mode.

 Dissolved oxygen measurement: Fluorescent fiber oxygen measurement technology, high measurement accuracy, strong stability, no oxygen consumption;

 Respiratory measurement chamber has a static respiratory chamber and a dynamic respiratory chamber / swimming chamber, which are used to measure the standard metabolism (SMR) and the activity metabolism (AMR) at different swimming speeds respectively;

 Fully automatic control, recording and analysis of data, simple and easy to use; the control of submersible pump and the acquisition of oxygen signal are through Bluetooth. Remote wireless transmission can effectively avoid the complicated cabling connection and the working noise caused by submersible pump.

 Respiratory chamber is highly customized in wither shapes, ans sizes according to the type of aquatic animals.

 Specifications

 The system mainly includes multi-channel fluorescent optical fiber oxygen measurement host and sensor, static respiratory chamber, control and analysis software, water environment control module and other accessories or alternatives. Depending on demand, there are single, four, eight, and even more channel measurement systems that can connect multiple respiratory chambers simultaneously to measure respiratory metabolism in , for example, multiple zebrafish.

  1-channel system: composed of single-channel fluorescent fiber oxygen measurement system, 1 respiratory chamber, two submersible pumps, pipelines and other fittings. The swimming chamber and other accessories are optional for the activity metabolism research at different swimming speeds, and the temperature and oxygen monitoring and control module is also optional.

 4-channel system: it consists of 4-channel fluorescent fiber oxygen measurement system, 4 respiratory chambers, 8 submersible pumps and other accessories. Swimming chamber and other accessories can be selected for activity metabolism research at different swimming speeds, including temperature and oxygen monitoring and control modules.

 8-channel system: it consists of two 4-channel fluorescent fiber oxygen measurement systems and 8 respiratory chambers. Swimming chamber and other accessories can be selected for activity metabolism research at different swimming speeds, and temperature and oxygen monitoring and control modules can be selected.


Technical Specifications

 Fluorescent fiber oxygen measuring system: including 4-channel measuring host, non-invasive oxygen sensors and temperature sensors. High spatial and temporal resolution, Bluetooth communication, active measurement of oxygen in water and air, long-term active monitoring, zero oxygen consumption, strong stability.

a. Oxygen measurement range is 0-100% or 0-45ppm;

b. Detection limit: 0.03% or 15 ppb;

c. Temperature, salinity and air pressure are compensated in real time, without interference from electromagnetic signals, real-time recording, and showing the change of oxygen in the respiratory chamber over time.

  Automatic control and software: automatic calculation to display oxygen consumption rate and correlation coefficient R2, real-time record and display the change of oxygen consumption rate with time; real-time record and display the change of temperature over time, the measurement data is automatically stored as Excel format, and the raw data is automatically stored as Txt format documents.

a. Change the measurement method immediately and adjust the measurement / exchange time of the intermittent respiratory measurement method;

b. Post-data analysis: automatically calculate SMR, Pcrit and other parameters, displayed accordingly on chart;

c. Automatic settings: Provide a preset system configuration for the users to choose from.

  Water environment control module: including temperature monitoring control module and dissolved oxygen monitoring control module. Can individually regulate CO2 / pH.

a. The temperature monitoring and control module includes the temperature sensor, submersible pump, stainless steel cooling pipe, etc. Temperature sensor Pt1000 measurement range -50℃ ~180℃, accuracy ± 0.15℃;

b. The oxygen monitoring and control module includes fluorescent fiber oxygen sensor, solenoid valve, air stone, etc. The module controls the solenoid valve to add oxygen or nitrogen to control the water in the state of hyperoxia or hypoxia.

c. CO2 / pH monitoring and control module includes controller host, pH meter and probe, solenoid valve, air stone and CapCTRL control software, etc. By monitoring pH value, the CO2 content in water is indirectly determined and the pH and CO2 content of control water is adjusted and monitored in real time. The pH measurement range is 0~14 and the resolution is 0.01.

 Respiratory Chamber:

 Acrylic acid or borosilicate glass, with an internal diameter of 62-240mm or 9-45mm, respectively, and the length is optional (mainly based on the length and volume of aquatic animals). Other types of respiratory chambers can also be customized according to the animal shape and the specific requirements of users, such as zebrafish respiratory chamber, suitable for the respiratory chamber of crabs, mussels and other aquatic animals.

 Submersible pump: the static swimming chamber has two optional flow rates of 5 L/min and 10 L/min, which match the volume of the respiratory chamber.
